We presented the development of spillbalanse.no.

Today, Esport Arena took part in a professional conference on gaming hosted by the Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority (Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet) and Helsedirektoratet. There, we had the opportunity to present spillbalanse.no, a new tool that helps gamers find a healthy balance in their gaming.
The conference brought together regulators, government directorates, researchers and support services working with gaming and gaming problems. The programme was broad. It opened with an update on the work on the national action plan. That was followed by current research from Spillforsk, a briefing on the Gaming Authority’s review of loot boxes, and a talk on boys, gaming and gambling from Kristiania University of Applied Sciences. The Norwegian Media Authority presented its “Snakk om spill” (“Talk about gaming”) initiative, and Barnevakten spoke about spending and addictive mechanics in the favourite games of children and young people. Spillavhengighet Norge (Gaming Addiction Norway) gave an update from the user perspective and announced an upcoming seminar on gambling and gaming, organised together with Korus Nord.
Dev and Zebber presented Esport Arena and the spillbalanse.no project.
Esport Arena is run by volunteers. We organise tournaments and run our own Discord server, where players meet, get to know each other and find teams. This means we see players regularly, including young players, and that adults and volunteers are present both where people talk and where they compete.
In the presentation, we pointed to four areas where tournament platforms and gaming communities can contribute:
Spillbalanse.no is an anonymous balance check that takes less than two minutes. It is based on the IGDS9-SF, an internationally validated tool with nine questions about gaming habits. Along the way, players get short “Good to know” tips, for example that the brain actually improves gaming skills during breaks and sleep.
At the end, players receive a balance profile based on a traffic light model: green, yellow or red. They also get a personal gaming plan with concrete advice tailored to their own answers. A red light comes with a friendly encouragement to seek help, with direct links to Hjelpelinjen (the national gambling and gaming helpline) and Spillavhengighet Norge.
No login is required, and the site has no tracking. No answers are stored on our side.
We are now in the first phase. We are developing the tool, piloting it and gathering input from experts. The next step is to put together a package for sports clubs, esports clubs and gaming communities on how they can raise the topic and use spillbalanse.no. After that, the tool will be rolled out.
Once spillbalanse.no is live, we will work continuously on conversations about the topic, use of the tool, and referrals to low-threshold support and health services.
Spillbalanse.no is developed by Esport Arena in collaboration with the Norwegian Esports and Gaming Federation (NEGF), with support from the Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority.
